Education and Appointments:

Jin-Long Ren is a 30-year-old postdoctoral fellow and assistant researcher at Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He holds a doctoral degree and has extensive experience in the systematics, biogeography, and genomic evolution of amphibians and reptiles, with a focus on the snake family Natricidae. In recent years, he has described two new genera and 12 new species of amphibians and reptiles. Additionally, he revised the taxonomic statuses of seven natricine genera, which providing a foundation for systematic and evolutionary research. Jin-Long has published a total of 32 academic papers, including 29 SCI papers and a cover paper published in the journal CELL as a joint first author. The research results offer significant fundamental scientific support for the fields of systematics and evolutionary biology.

Research Interest

1. Systematics and biogeography. To study the systematics of amphibians and reptiles based on integrative taxonomy. Combining paleogeology, paleoclimate and fossil evidence to explore the origin and evolution of taxa.
2. Morphological evolution of organs. To study the morphological diversity, driving factors and evolutionary history of hemipenis, the copulatory organ, of snakes in the world.
3. Adaptive evolution of snakes. The genetic and chemical communication mechanisms behind how snakes adapt to the aquatic environment were studied using a multi-omics method.
